These local immersions are perfect for a quick escape into French without leaving the country. They’re designed for adult learners who want to practise French intensively in a warm, supportive environment.

Mornings include structured classes led by qualified native French teachers.
Afternoons are filled with cultural activities: nature walks, cooking, games, and storytelling — all in French.
Evenings are spent together over dinner, followed by optional activities like card games or fireside chats.
Accommodation is arranged in comfortable hotels, with options for private or shared rooms.

Who can join a French Immersion Retreat?

Our immersions are open to all adult learners — whether you're a current student at French à la Carte or discovering us for the first time.

To ensure a rewarding experience for everyone, each immersion requires a minimum level of French. This allows participants to fully engage in conversations, activities and cultural experiences conducted entirely in French. We welcome:

French Immersions Days in Sydney - April 2026

Our Immersion Days are designed to go beyond the classroom. Each day combines a themed French workshop in the morning with a cultural activity in the afternoon — cinema, gastronomy, pétanque or art — followed by our much-loved apéro to finish the experience together.

You won’t just practise French — you’ll live it. Expect meaningful conversation, laughter, cultural depth and that special FALC atmosphere where learning feels natural, social and joyful.

Open to all non-beginner levels.

ℹ️ Practical Information

Transport between venues is provided throughout the day.
Morning tea and apéro are included.
Please bring your own lunch, or purchase something from nearby cafés during the break.

FRENCH & CINEMA

Spend the day exploring the richness of the Francophone world through cinema. We’ll begin with an engaging workshop on la francophonie — discovering different French-speaking cultures, accents and identities — before heading to the cinema together to watch The Rookie Guide.

Back in St Ives, we’ll debrief the film in French, share reflections, play a few themed games and finish the day the best way we know how: with a relaxed apéro and conversation.

This delicious immersion day celebrates French gastronomy in all its forms. Through an interactive workshop, we’ll explore French food culture, regional specialities and the language of taste, before heading out for a hands-on chocolate workshop with Hélène from Choc & Moi in Dee Why.

Expect tasting, creativity and plenty of French conversation, followed by a casual and very French apéro and games back in St Ives — the perfect blend of language, culture and indulgence.

Experience the charm of a French village day — Australian style. We’ll head to Avalon for a friendly pétanque session at the Bowlo, playing and chatting in French just as you would in the south of France.

In the afternoon, we’ll explore village life in France through a cultural workshop back in St Ives — traditions, social rituals and community spirit — before gathering for apéro and games.
